Tajdar Junaid is an Oscar-nominated multi-instrumentalist, composer, songwriter, and producer based between Kolkata and Mumbai. He works across films, documentaries, independent music and advertising, bringing together Indian and international influences, with over a decade of experience across cinema, live performances, and collaborations.
His debut album ‘What Colour Is Your Raindrop’ (2013) was listed among Rolling Stone India’s top albums of the year. His composition “Dastaan” featured in Mohsen Makhmalbaf’s film The President, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2014. He has worked across international and Indian projects, including the Hollywood film ‘Sold’ produced by Emma Thompson, and films associated with Anurag Kashyap, Aparna Sen, and Rituparno Ghosh.
He has composed for films, documentaries, and independent music, including Mukti Bhawan (2018), which earned him a Filmfare nomination for Best Background Score. His collaborations include Amyt Datta, Karsh Kale, Swanand Kirkire, and Moushumi Bhowmik. He has also worked across theatre, dance, and live performances, and has been involved in teaching and mentoring musicians for over 15 years.
He contributed to the documentary ‘Writing With Fire’ (2021), which was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the Academy Awards.
