Tara Kapur leads the India team for the Duolingo English Test (DET), where she works on expanding access to English language certification for students aspiring to study abroad, having also been the first hire for DET in India and helping grow its presence among Indian test-takers. With over 16 years of experience across content, brand building, and storytelling, Kapur has worked across media, marketing, and content creation.
Kapur has completed a Leadership and Management programme at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. She began her career as a television journalist and producer with ET Now’s Brand Equity, covering the marketing and advertising industry. She later joined Kulfi Collective, a digital media network and content studio, as a founding member, and went on to serve as Head of Marketing and Communications.
Her career has also included roles across digital media and entertainment, including work with Netflix, Vice Media, and Vitamin Stree, a content platform focused on storytelling for young girls, where she is a founding member.
Kapur’s work has been recognised by international platforms such as Spikes Asia, The Clio Awards, The Webby Awards, and The Shorty Awards, as well as Indian industry awards including the Kyoorius Creative Awards, Goafest, Effies, and NEON OOH Awards.
Beyond her professional work, Kapur is involved in mentorship and community initiatives. She hosts a monthly webinar series, “Open Conversations with Tara Kapur,” where she shares insights from her career and engages with students and early professionals.
