A fine arts graduate from Kolkata, he began his career in Mumbai in 2000, working under the mentorship of renowned production designer Samir Chanda. His early exposure to the industry laid the foundation for his meticulous approach to production design.

Chakraborty has collaborated extensively with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, contributing to the visual grandeur of films such as Padmaavat (2018), Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022), and the Netflix series Heeramandi (2024).
