Sumanto Chattopadhyay


Sumanto Chattopadhyay is a multifaceted creative professional, serving as a creative consultant, writer, actor, and the creator of The English Nut. Formerly the Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of 82.5 Communications, part of the Ogilvy Group, he played a pivotal role in its launch in 2019. Sumanto, with his extensive experience, has been instrumental in building brands such as Dove, Pond’s, and Star Plus. Noteworthy achievements include the successful relaunch of UTI Bank as Axis Bank and contributions to the launches of Pro Kabaddi, Maharashtra Tourism, and The Economist.


His creative prowess spans both traditional and digital advertising, earning him prestigious advertising awards like Cannes, the Clios, the One Show, the London Festival, the Abbies, and Kyoorius. Some notable achievements include the Grand Effie for the Star Plus campaign in 2018, the Kyoorius Awards sweep for the Star Plus campaign in 2017, and the AMES awards for his Diu campaign in 2016.


Sumanto has received recognition as The Creative Professional of the Year in 2008 at the Asian Brand Congress. His rankings include 10th amongst advertising creative people in Asia by Media magazine in 2007 and 4th in India by Campaign Brief Asia in 2008. His campaign for adoption awareness was globally ranked 12th by the Gunn Report in 2008.


His alter ego, The English Nut, is active on social media platforms, providing wit and wisdom about the English language.
