Vikash Nowlakha


Member of ISC, Vikash Graduated in Eastern Philosophy and Environmental Economics from the University of Tasmania, Vikash discovered his passion for film as a means of expression, seeking meaning and exploring the human condition.


His visual interests blossomed during his stint as a Producer at MTV in the late '90s, which eventually led him to focus on cinematography. In 2001, Vikash further honed his skills by enrolling in the New York Film Academy's Filmmaking Workshop, where he delved into shooting silent 16mm films, student films, and independent films across New York. One of his notable achievements during this time was winning the Best Cinematography award for Sergi Pratt's 'The Intruder' at the Torello International Film Festival in 2002.


From there, Vikash's career took off, spanning documentaries, promos, music videos, commercials, and features. Today, he is equally comfortable working anywhere in the world, whether it's capturing cars across remote landscapes of Inner Mongolia, shooting celebrity hip-hop videos in LA, or documenting stories of child soldiers in war-torn regions of Central Africa.


His advertising work has earned global recognition, with clients such as Maserati, BMW, Buick, Chevrolet, Yamaha, Honda, Lexus, Skoda, Vespa, Fiat, the New York Knicks, Nike, and Adidas. Additionally, his films have garnered numerous awards, including the Cannes Lion (Fevicol), Abby's (Cadbury's), Kyoorius (Ambuja Cement), Goafest (Durex; best cinematography 2018), and the Artivist award.


Vikash's filmography includes notable films like 'Dus Kahaniyaan' (2007), 'Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year' (2009), 'Bloody Brothers' (Series: 2022), 'Brahmastra Part One: Shiva' (2022), and 'Laapataa Ladies' (2023). His recent documentary work for David Attenborough's 'The Green Planet' and 'The Year the Earth Changed' has been widely acclaimed.
