Suzanne Caplan Merwanji is a distinguished production designer and set decorator, British by origin and a long-time resident of Mumbai and Goa. She trained in art history and textiles before transitioning into design roles across advertising and film.
Suzanne's creative impetus stems from a deep immersion in India’s visual culture, with many of her stories rooted in authentic detail and emotional truth. Her habitat—literally and artistically—is Mumbai, a city she describes as “in her veins, in her blood”
Merwanji’s breakthrough cinematic contributions began with Dil Chahta Hai (2001) as production designer, followed by Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) and Gully Boy (2019), each celebrated for creating authentic, emotionally resonant worlds. Her work on Gully Boy—including the recreation of Dharavi—won her the Filmfare Award for Best Production Design.
Her filmography also includes roles in projects such as Vanity Fair (India scenes) and The Darjeeling Limited (2007)—where she worked as set decorator—demonstrating an international scope
Beyond feature films, she is known for brand collaborations like “More Together” for Facebook via Oink Films, showcasing her leadership in commercial design.
