Gauri Shinde is a director and co-founder of Hope Productions, a Mumbai-based production company.
She began her creative journey in advertising as a copywriter and then transitioned into filmmaking while working at the films division of Lowe Lintas. During this period, she directed over a hundred commercials and short films, showcasing her narrative depth and visual elegance.
At the Good Ads Matter Awards 2025. Gauri served as a jury member for the category of Film Craft, Writing for Advertising. Known for her poignant storytelling, ability to draw authentic performances, and a simple yet elegant visual style, Gauri continues to bridge fine filmmaking with emotional resonance across both advertising and cinema.
Some of Gauri Shinde's notable works includes, Ariel's "Share the Load" campaign, Tanishq's "A Wedding to Remember" and WhatsApp Global campaign "Cut it Out."
Her work includes campaigns for brands such as Havells, Tanishq, LG, Axis Bank, ITC, Unilever, P&G, Tata Group, Byju’s, and A23, among others.
Gauri's feature film debut, English Vinglish (2012), a story inspired by her own mother’s struggle with language, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to critical acclaim. It earned her all the major Best Debut Director awards of 2012, including Filmfare and the Laadli National Media Award for Gender Sensitivity. The film was also shortlisted as India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards.
Riding on that success, she wrote, directed, and co-produced Dear Zindagi (2016), starring Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan. The film's direction struck a chord with audiences for its nuanced treatment of relationships and mental health.
In recognition of her vision, Gauri was featured in the Financial Times’ 2012 list of 25 Indians to Watch and was named one of Bollywood’s 5 Best Directors of 2012 by Rediff.
