Based in Mumbai

Farrokh Chothia is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker whose work spans over two decades across documentary, fashion, and portrait photography. Born in India and now based in the UK, he studied photography at the University of Westminster before building a prolific career. Chothia’s career has been defined by a deep visual sensitivity and a strong narrative instinct. Over the years, he has photographed some of Bollywood’s top celebrities and crafted campaigns with a distinctive sense of composition and light.

Chothia’s work has been featured in top publications such as The Guardian, Vogue, The Times, and The Independent, and he has collaborated with global brands like Nike, Adidas, BBC Radio 1Xtra, Sony Music, and Universal Music Group. His editorial work includes credits in GQ, Esquire, Dazed & Confused, and Wonderland.

While his commercial success is widely acknowledged, Chothia’s personal passion lies in music photography—especially live jazz. From 1989 to 2005, he photographed some of the world’s greatest jazz legends like BB King and Wynton Marsalis at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands, a project that culminated in the critically acclaimed black-and-white series Jazz Portraits. These images, rich with live energy and nuanced rhythm, reflect both his love for music and his mastery of capturing spontaneous moments in chaotic environments.

A recipient of prestigious honors, including the Sony World Photography Awards and the International Photography Awards, his work has been featured in exhibitions like Sensorium at Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts and at National Portrait Gallery, London.

His strength lies in capturing the unscripted, unguarded moments and the glance between poses.
