Dar, an alumnus of the distinguished Berlinale Talents Program, was born and brought up in Kyiv, Ukraine. Dar has acted in more than 15 theatre plays and has directed about a dozen plays and street performances.
After obtaining a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Philosophy with a minor in film and theatre from Kiev (Ukraine), Dar was invited to India to direct a play for the “Founder’s Day” of “Scindia School” in Gwalior and also to teach screenwriting and film appreciation at ‘Whistling Woods International’ (India’s premier private film school) in Mumbai.
Since then Dar has been writing and directing feature films, TV shows, commercials, short films and music videos in India. Her first narrative feature called “Teen Aur Aadha” is being co-produced and presented by noted Indian filmmaker Mr. Anurag Kashyap. Interestingly the entire film was filmed in three long shots starring Jim Sarbh, Zoya Hussain, MK Raina, Suhasini Mulay and Aarya Dave. The film has traveled to over 40 International Festivals and won 18 Awards.
Dar’s second film “Namdev Bhau in search of silence” world premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, had its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival and then played at MAMI (India Premier), Dharamshala International Film Festival (Opening Film), IFFI, Palm Springs International Film Festival (US Premiere), Goteborg International Film Festival (Swedish Premier) amongst a host of other early 2019 festivals.
In 2018, Dar also wrote and directed a large TVC campaign (with 5 commercials) for Jio (India’s fastest growing telecom giant), the campaign is being entered into the Cannes Lion as the first campaign from Jio to be submitted. She directed and produced commercials for various brands such as Center Fresh, Netflix, Stayfree, Bacardi, Xiaomi, Volkswagen etc.
Dar also wrote and directed a music video called “cold/mess” for one of India’s biggest independent musicians, Prateek Kuhad, which has hit over 8 million views and topped the list of Best Music Videos of 2018 for Rolling Stone magazine. The song also featured on Obama's Music of the Year list 2019 garnering attention from around the world.
Dar has written and directed the second music video for Ritviz called "Liggi" which has garnered 90 Million views on Facebook and YouTube and was also shared by Salman Khan. She has directed music videos for BGBNG Music, for artist Shalmali Kholgade called "Ruka Ruka" featuring Aparshakti Khurana.
She is the founder of Jugaad Motion Pictures, an award-winning production house.
