Based in Paris
Carlijn Jacobs is a highly talented photographer and director who is currently based in Paris. Originally from the Netherlands, she pursued her studies in photography at the prestigious Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. Early in her career, Jacobs gained recognition for her clever and thought-provoking critiques of mass culture. She is regarded as part of a new generation of artists who have grown up surrounded by an abundance of historical and contemporary visual references.
Inspired by various artistic movements such as Surrealism, Art Deco, and Camp, Jacobs incorporates these influences to challenge the traditional definitions of art within the framework of modernism. Her work is characterized by meticulous planning, while also seeking to create environments that yield surprising and unconventional outcomes.
In 2021, Carlijn Jacobs released her first monograph titled "Mannequins," published by Art Paper Editions. Her editorial projects have been featured in prestigious publications including Vogue, Vogue France, Vogue Italia, Dazed, Pop, D Repubblica, M le Monde, and AnOther Magazine. Additionally, she has collaborated with renowned brands such as Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Loewe, and Mugler on commercial assignments.
