Swapnil Patole is a pioneering force in Indian post-production, serving as Chief Colourist and Head of the DI Department at Famous Studios, Mumbai, while also holding the role of Regional Head for the Independent Colourist Guild India Association. With a career spanning over 20 years, Swapnil has become synonymous with excellence in colour grading, having shaped the visual tone of more than 18,000 TV commercials across every genre imaginable.
His portfolio is a testament to his versatility and creative precision, with work for top-tier brands such as Amazon, Honda, Ponds, L’Oréal, Garnier, McDonald’s, BMW, Mercedes, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Pepe, Levi’s, and Lee Jeans, among countless others. Known for his ability to enhance storytelling through colour, Swapnil’s craft extends seamlessly from high-end advertising to long-form storytelling.
Recognition for his artistry has come from some of the most respected platforms in the industry. He has been nominated for Best Colourist at the International Colourist Guild Awards for the TV series Paurashpur (2020) and the feature film Agent Durga (2021). More recently, he won back-to-back VAM Awards — in 2023 for Rafta Rafta and in 2024 for the international TV series Missed Connection. His work has been featured in Cinematography Art Magazine and recognised by the Western India Cinematographer Association.
Beyond his creative contributions, Swapnil is also a respected industry leader and advocate. In 2022, he served as a jury member for the FilmLight Colourist Awards and again in 2024 for the Cinematography Art Awards, where his discerning eye helped recognise the very best in the craft. His leadership extended beyond the industry when he was appointed to a Supreme Court of India committee to advise on a landmark case involving discrimination against colour blind candidates at FTII. His advocacy played a key role in the court’s historic ruling to allow such candidates into all courses, a decision celebrated as a victory for inclusivity in the arts.
Under his stewardship at Famous Studios, Swapnil has cultivated a culture of innovation and collaboration, pushing the boundaries of what colour grading can achieve.
