Satyanshu Singh is a National Award–winning filmmaker, screenwriter, lyricist, and professor of cinema whose work blends heartfelt storytelling with a deep understanding of human relationships. His films and writing are known for their emotional warmth, simplicity, and ability to find extraordinary moments within everyday life.
After completing his MBBS at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, Satyanshu chose to pursue storytelling rather than medicine and moved to Mumbai to build a career in cinema. He began his journey in the industry by writing poems for Vikramaditya Motwane’s Udaan, produced by Anurag Kashyap, before going on to write lyrics for films such as Ferrari Ki Sawaari and Sulemani Keeda.
His directorial debut, the Kashmiri short film Tamaash, won the National Film Award (Special Jury – Silver Lotus) and received recognition at several international film festivals.
Satyanshu later co-wrote and co-directed the widely acclaimed feature film Chintu Ka Birthday with his brother Devanshu Singh. Released on ZEE5 in 2020, the film tells the story of an Indian family trying to celebrate a child’s birthday in war-torn Iraq and was praised for its warmth, humour, and humanity.
Beyond filmmaking, Satyanshu is also deeply committed to nurturing new voices in cinema. He has taught screenwriting and cinema studies at institutions including Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares and colleges affiliated with Mumbai University, and has conducted workshops across India. He also designed and mentored AIB’s “First Draft”, a highly regarded screenwriting residency programme for emerging writers.
He has worked as a creative consultant with SonyLIV and most recently co-directed the acclaimed series Jehanabad – Of Love & War. Alongside mentoring writers and developing new projects, he continues to work across formats—films, series, and original stories.
At heart, Satyanshu remains a storyteller who believes in the power of simple, humane narratives—stories that celebrate resilience, compassion, and the quiet heroism of ordinary people. Social Media Handles: Instagram: @cinema_is_forever
