Prakash Kurup - Co-founder & Creative Head, Prime Focus
Prakash Kurup is an editor, director, and creative leader with more than three decades of experience across advertising, broadcast design, and feature films. He is the Co-founder and Creative Head of Prime Focus, a post-production company that has grown into a major player in the global media and entertainment industry. Its visual effects division, DNEG, has received multiple Academy Awards, including recognition for Dune: Part One.
Before co-founding Prime Focus, Prakash worked as a 2D animation instructor and comic illustrator, with several published illustrated books to his credit. This foundation in illustration and animation continues to influence his approach to visual storytelling across editing, design, and direction.
At Prime Focus, he has led numerous advertising and broadcast design projects recognised at Cannes Lions, ADFEST Asia Pacific, Promax, the Ad Club Abbies, and the Kyoorius Awards. His advertising work includes editing The Story of Kaveri for Ayappa, produced by Early Man Film, one of the most awarded Indian public service campaigns in recent years.
His film credits include Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva (2022), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013), and Solo (2017), where he contributed across editing and song editing. More recently, he directed a multi-film campaign for Uttarakhand Tourism and is part of the creative team behind the marketing campaign for Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Prime Focus, scheduled for release in 2026.
Alongside his work as an editor and director, Prakash continues to explore illustration, animation, graphic novels, and music, interests that continue to inform his creative practice across advertising and cinema.
