Nag Ashwin is a film director and screenwriter known for his work in Telugu cinema, with a growing influence across Indian and global filmmaking. His work is characterised by a mix of strong storytelling and ambitious scale, often combining rooted narratives with larger cinematic vision.


He began his career as an assistant director, working with filmmaker Sekhar Kammula on projects like Leader and Life Is Beautiful, before making his directorial debut with Yevade Subramanyam (2015), which earned him the Nandi Award for Best Debut Director. Over the years, he has developed a reputation for both content-driven and large-scale filmmaking, working across writing, directing, and production.


His most notable works include Mahanati (2018), a biographical drama on actor Savitri that became a critical and commercial success, earning him a National Film Award and a Filmfare Award for Best Director. He later directed the large-scale science fiction film Kalki 2898 AD (2024), marking his move into high-budget, globally positioned cinema. Other works include Pitta Kathalu (2021) and his role as producer on Jathi Ratnalu (2021).


With a career that spans both intimate storytelling and spectacle-driven films, Nag Ashwin is widely regarded as one of the filmmakers shaping the next phase of Indian cinema.
