Lijo Jose Pellissery is a celebrated Indian filmmaker known for his groundbreaking work in Malayalam cinema. Renowned for his unique storytelling, nonlinear narratives, and unconventional filmmaking techniques, he has redefined the language of Indian cinema.

Born in Chalakudy, Kerala, to renowned theatre and film actor Jose Pellissery, Lijo inherited a deep passion for storytelling. After earning an MBA from the Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Bangalore, he transitioned into filmmaking, initially working in advertising before making his mark in cinema.

Pellissery made his directorial debut with Nayakan (2010) and gained recognition with City of God (2011), Amen (2013), and the cult-favorite Angamaly Diaries (2017), which introduced an entirely new cast and became a landmark in Indian cinema. His films Ee.Ma.Yau. (2018) and Jallikattu (2019) further cemented his reputation, with Jallikattu being India’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards. His other acclaimed works include Churuli (2021) and Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam (2022).

A recipient of numerous accolades, Pellissery has won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Director twice and is a two-time winner of the prestigious Silver Peacock for Best Director at the International Film Festival of India. His films have also premiered at global festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival.
