Future East Film


Future East Film is a production company based in Mumbai founded by Director Ashim Ahluwalia, known for its artistically driven approach to creating award-winning films, and shareable stories.


The company's debut feature film, John & Jane, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and Berlinale in 2006, earning numerous accolades, including a European Media Art Award and an Indian National Award. Notably, John & Jane was the first Indian project acquired by HBO Films for U.S. theatrical release.


Following this success, Future East's next feature, Miss Lovely, had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and was released internationally across various territories, including the U.S., UK, India, Germany, France, Japan, Taiwan, and multiple countries in Latin America and Eastern Europe.


Future East's subsequent projects, such as Daddy (2017), have continued to gain international recognition, winning accolades at major film festivals, including Venice, SXSW, New Directors/New Films, Rotterdam, and the London Film Festival.


The company thrives on balancing art and commerce, working across various platforms and media, and engaging with diverse formats, from Super 8 to surveillance cameras. Future East's work has been exhibited at prestigious venues like Tate Modern (London), Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), The Guggenheim (New York/Berlin), the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Frieze Art Fair (London), and Art Basel. The company also contributed to the first Indian installation at the 10th Venice Architecture Biennale.


Beyond feature films, Future East has produced global content for broadcasters such as The Discovery Channel, HBO, Arte, Channel 4, and MCM, as well as for streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon. over the years the company has collaborated with notable brand campaigns including L'Oréal, Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Visa, Sony, Unilever, P&G, Meta, Reliance, and others.


In 2022, Future East launched FED (Future East Digital), a full-service creative studio focused on innovative digital experiences, including AR, VR, AI, and emerging technology. Their first series, CLA$$, released globally on Netflix.
