In 1962, a group of designers and art directors including David Bailey, Terence Donovan, and Alan Fletcher formed British Design & Art Direction to celebrate creative communication and raise industry standards. The following year, they organized their first awards event and awarded only 16 entries out of 2,500 with the prestigious D&AD Yellow Pencil. Today, the organization is known simply as D&AD and has expanded globally to represent the creative, design, and advertising communities worldwide.
To qualify for the D&AD Awards, the submitted work must meet the following criteria:
The work must have been created in response to a genuine client brief or approved by a client.
The work must have been made available to the public through legal channels and paid for by the client.
The work must have been commercially released between January 1, 2022, and April 18, 2023, with alternative eligibility windows for certain categories.
The categories with alternative eligibility windows include Digital Design/Incremental, Digital Design/Beta, Product Design/Prototypes, Integrated/Established Campaigns, PR/Established Campaigns, Creative Transformation, Side Hustle, Impact, Future Impact, and Collaborative.
