Aashish Rego is an Indian composer, musician, and guitarist—best known for his monumental contributions to television music. With a remarkable career tally of music composed for over 125 TV shows and more than 21,000 episodes, he stands among the most prolific composers in the world.
His musical journey began early: at just nine years old he started playing the violin, and by age 11 he was delivering solo performances. Trained under the legendary Mr. Pervez Doctor, Aashish honed his orchestral skills across instruments like violin, viola, and cello, performing with ensembles including the Bombay Players Orchestra and Delhi Symphony Orchestra.
At 19, he entered the world of film music, playing in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai under Jatin–Lalit, and later released his debut album Yeh Dil Deewana Hai. He also co-founded the rock bands Vedic Chant and Fire & Ice.
His transition into television saw him working as a programmer and associate music director for Mahesh Naik, before independently scoring the award-winning TV show Kagaar (2002). He went on to win multiple Telly Awards for shows like Goonj – Ateet Ki (2003), Sarrrkar (2005), Laado (2009), and the iconic Balika Vadhu (2010), for which he was also honored by the Jaipur International Film Festival for promoting Rajasthani music.
In 2017, he received the Global Film Festival Award for Best Music Composer. Beyond composition, Aashish is a force for advocacy, serving as General Secretary of the Music Composers' Association of India, on the Board of Directors for IPRS, and Vice Chairman of APMA (Asia Pacific Music Creators Alliance)—positions reflecting his commitment to bolstering creators’ rights and industry standards
